U.S. Department of Justice Publishes Final Rule Concerning Audio Description Expansion in Movie Theatres

December 2, 2016 – the U.S. Department of Justice published today in the Federal Register the final rule covering expansion of audio description services in movie theatres covered under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The rule takes effect in 45 days, at which point theatres must publicly provide information on audio description services, maintain devices, and have staff be familiar with the use and care of such devices where currently available. Digital theatres of a certain size that do not currently provide such services must do so within 18 months of the final rule published today. read the text of the final rule here (link is external).
